Fireball meatballs are the hottest spiciest meatballs this side of the Mississippi!!! We love spicy food!!! These Fireball Meatballs have scorpion peppers in them and they did not disappoint! We actually loved them so much we had to make them two days in a row. The second day we made some of the fireball meatballs without the Scorpion peppers, and I have to say, the flavor of the meatballs are great spicy or mild.
Scoville Scale!!
The Scoville Scale is used to measure the spice or the rating of the heat level of peppers. It’s actually called the Scoville Heat Unit (SHU). Just to give an idea of how hot these peppers are, the SHU for a Bell Pepper is a zero, Anaheim peppers are from 500 – 2,500, Jalapeno Peppers have an SHU of 2,000 to 50,000, Scotch Bonnet and Habaneros are from 100,000 to 350,000. With some Habanero’s ranging all the way up to 577,000.
Now, a Ghost pepper and Scorpion (we used Scorpion Pepper to make these Fireball Meatballs) are from 850,000 to 2,000,000. The hottest pepper in the world is the Carolina Reaper and it ranges from 1,500,000 to 2,000,000+. NOW THAT IS HOT! This is just to provide an idea of the heat level for some peppers. If you want more details about Scoville Heat Units check out the details on the Scoville scale web site,
Making these Spicy Meatballs
The recipe for the meatballs is so easy and, the best part, they are very spicy but are also full of flavor. Often foods are made spicy but have no other flavor- its just hot! With these meatballs you taste all the different spices and then the heat hits. It makes it a lot of fun to eat if you are a spicy food lover.
First thing, buy ground turkey or grind a turkey breast. We try to buy 99% Fat Free ground turkey. Mix together the spices and chop the Scorpion pepper in a food processor or use gloves if you chop them on a cutting board.
Mixing the Fireball Meatballs
Second step is to mix together the ground turkey, spices and scorpion pepper. Make sure to wear gloves when mixing these fireball meatballs together. The oil from the peppers will get on your hands and it doesn’t wash off easily. Trust me you are going to touch your eyes if you have handled chopped peppers. . . I have proven this theory many times!!!
Third, mix together and form the meatballs into a bite sized ball or make them as large or as small as you want. Just adjust the cooking time depending on the size of the fireball meatballs.
Finally, place the meatballs on a baking sheet. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
Serve the fireball meatballs with your favorite dipping sauce. We like ranch dressing with some blue cheese mixed in.
